The best thing about Dardenne Prairie yards is also the trickiest: the developers left many of the original oaks standing when the subdivisions went in. Those preserved white oaks and bur oaks are magnificent, but construction compacted the clay over their roots years ago, and some are now declining slowly with dieback in the upper crown. Newer planted trees on these larger lots are mostly fine, while the greenway along Dardenne Creek adds a band of native timber that sheds deadwood into adjoining backyards. Sorting the savable oaks from the hazards is a judgment call we make carefully.

Dardenne Prairie is an easy twenty minutes from our St. Charles shop, and much of our work here is exactly what those preserved oaks need: dormant-season pruning to stay ahead of oak wilt, deadwood removal over patios, and cabling on trees with split-prone unions. When an oak is truly past saving we take it down in sections, protect the lawn it shaded, and grind the stump so the yard can move on. We would rather keep a good oak alive than bill for removing it. That is the recommendation you will hear first.
